No mulligans.
Someone found my blog using the search term “im scared im too fat to get my belly button pierced.”
I think my heart just broke.
What’s too fat for a pierced belly button? I thought all you needed for a pierced belly button was..well..a belly button. If you have one of those, you’re good to go. I didn’t know there was a weight restriction.
I guess I should know, though. There are weight restrictions for everything when you don’t like your body, aren’t there? Let’s see. In the past I’ve been too fat for: indoor rock-climbing, shorts, sleeveless shirts, swimming, running, yoga, short hair, tennis, bicycle-riding, jumping on a trampoline, playing on a park swing, eating in public, dating, applying for jobs, and, on occasion, leaving the house.
I have let a lot of things pass me by because I thought I was too fat for them. And you know what? You cannot be too fat to live life the way you want. So, little Googler out there, let’s make a pact. You go get your belly button pierced and I promise I’ll go swimming this summer. We’re not getting any do-overs in this life, so let’s go for the fun stuff when we can.
We’re worth it.

My husband worked for a time in piercing studio, and he said that being too skinny is actually a far more common problem - not enough skin to hang it on.
The tissue between the barbell and the edge of your navel is what’s holding it in. If there’s not enough there… you’re gonna have problems.
Bless your heart, mystery googler. If getting your navel pierced is what sings to you, then i say do it. Your body is the house of your soul - decorate it in the ways you find beautiful.
Actually, I think it’s excellent that someone found your blog because they were uncomfortable with their body. Sad that they do, but they could have been taken a whole host of other sites that re-affirmed body shame. Instead, they found this lovely place.
Fat blogs should contain the word fat more than anyone else, up the Google factor, and subvert sites with the negative use of fat. Google subversion, I love it!
FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT FAT NEVER TOO FAT FAT FAT FAT NEVER TOO FAT!!!!!
I’ve gotten searches like “hate myself so fat” and “hate my body want to die.” It guts me every time I see it, but withoutscene is right — I just hope they got something out of landing on a fat positive blog.
But at least they found you! I try to avoid all that “must hate your female body” crap when I come across it, so blogs like yours are a breath of fresh air. Phew *letting my belly hang out now*.
I just found your blog through bliss chick but I feel you on the life is too short card. I have been holding back so much of my life waiting to be thin and happy. This year, I am making the commitment to myself and my happiness to do what makes me happy now.
Glad I found your blog!
