Party like it’s Autumn.
As I sat at the kitchen table at 5:30 this morning, the darkness swirled in the open back door on a cool breeze and ruffled my notebook pages across the table. Fall is here!
This is my favorite time of the year. That spicy scent of fallen leaves, the toasty coziness of flannel PJs, the promise of pumpkin pie and candy corn. As part of my attempt to live a real life, one not narrowly confined by my diet/exercise schedule, I am going to pretend I am the secret fantasy Megan and do what she does. And fall? Well, that’s when life gets really good.
I’ve always been an at-home girl even though as a kid I adored camping and being outside. At some point, I traded in bike rides and campfires for holing up in my room with books and TV. I swapped outside life for inside life but now? I want take-backs.
I can’t wait to go on a bike ride until I’m skinny and lean like a dancer because my genetics prefer me curvy and built like a pioneer. And I can’t pass on going on a hike because trail mix doesn’t fit into my calories for the day. And I can’t turn down a day of apple-picking because I have a long workout planned.
Basically, I can’t keep leading the exact same life I’ve led for the past 5 or so years and expect to have a different life, right?
This year, Fall = Fun. I will make S’mores by a campfire, I will hike in the woods and not parcel out a precise 1 oz. of almonds as my snack, I will ride my bike until the wheels fall off, ass-spillage-over-seat be damned.
I waited for 5.5 years to be thin enough to be acceptable and now I’ve been waiting 5 months to get strong enough to be accepting, and now?
Done waiting. Time for doing!

Huzzah!!!
Yay! I love Autumn, too
I bought a cushy seat and by the time it got here in the mail, my bum no longer hurt on the not cushy seat. I recommend riding more than once because of the bum factor.
Yay! I love fall, too. I got so excited on Monday because Starbucks is back with the pumpkin spice lattes and the grocery store is prominently displaying winter squash again.
And it’s so much more fun to ride a bike in the fall with the leaves blowing and the brisk air. For some reason, even though fall is supposed to be when things wind-down, it’s when I get the most excitable and active.
And Halloween! My favorite holiday!
Wow, you have just gotten me all geared up for the season!
It’s my favorite time of year, too. It feels like anything is possible. Especially when I think about where I was last year.
I’m going apple picking on Sunday! And I may even have some hot chocolate at the farm.
xoxo
[...] 13th, 2007 in ottermatic, fat, Chicago, fashion Megan over at Good with Cheese got me all excited for fall this morning so I shelled out $5.40 (HOLY SHIT) for a venti, nonfat, triple shot, three-pump, [...]
Weather like this makes me long for a caramel scented candle and a Chai Latte. I ♥ Autumn!!
Ooh yay! I went apple picking on Sunday! It was fabulous! Now we have an entire crisper drawer full of yummy apples - okay, along with a bit of sunburn and a host of mosquito bites from getting swarmed. But that’s part of what makes that kind of thing memorable and fun. Sure, it’s nice when it’s all idyllic and la-la-la, but running around an apple orchard doing your best Tippi Hedren impersonation makes for better storytelling later on. grin!
Happy Fall!!!
If only it was fall here! It’s still in the upper 80’s and 90’s!
I do love fall though. Applepicking and smores sound lovely. I was also very excited at the pumpkin spice lattes…I may even have one tomorrow. Tall, with soymilk. Mmmmm.
Fall is, by far, the best season. The colors, the smells, the whole mystique about the season. I cannot wait to have a fire in our fireplace for the very first time. I have awesome Halloween parties to look forward to, and spooky movies, and decorations, and trick-or-treaters for the very first time. Cider mills with warm apple cider and cinnamon donuts. Walks through the woods filled with beautiful leaves.
I am full of anticipation for this season, which I haven’t felt for a very long time. Normally I’m too worried about all the Halloween candy that comes out at this time of year. Not this year. And I am glad that you feel the same way. It is nice to feel so liberated about that which we should have always been. Better late than never, I always say!
